Her Story
Alessandra Basher is a Brazilian-born stand-up comedian, writer, and actress based in Austin, Texas.
Before moving to the United States, she spent a decade performing in Brazil, where she toured her one-woman comedy show for six years across São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and appeared on TV Globo's hit soap opera Passione.
After stepping away from entertainment for 12 years to focus on raising her family, Alessandra returned to the stage - this time performing stand-up comedy in her second language.
Alessandra's comedy is built on one simple idea: no matter where you're from, families are complicated, marriage is confusing, and life rarely goes according to plan. Through sharp storytelling, memorable characters, and the unique perspective of a Brazilian navigating life in America, she turns cultural differences and everyday frustrations into comedy that feels both personal and universally relatable.
She has performed at the Hollywood Improv in Los Angeles, Gotham Comedy Club and Broadway Comedy Club in New York City, and clubs across Austin. A Brazilian rebuilding her life in America, Alessandra is discovering that families, marriages, and human behavior are just as dysfunctional in every language.

In Brazil, we have a saying: “Each monkey on its own branch.” It means, “Mind your own business.” Alessandra's family has never been very good at that... so she made a podcast.
Every week, she will dive into a new problem - sometimes her own, but more often someone else's.
From listener stories and internet drama to marriage, motherhood, family, friendships, cultural differences, aging, and the beautiful chaos of everyday life, nothing is off-limits once it becomes everyone's business. Along the way, Alessandra is joined by comedians and special guests who bring their own stories, opinions, and problems to the conversation.
